Pacific Station – Nanaimo’s first synergistic mixed-use development. Pacific Station is a vibrant community that features 28 commercial office spaces, 16 two & three-bedroom townhomes, and 60 rental homes at Hub at Pacific Station. Originally slated for single-family homes, Westmark didn’t want to just build another residential community of single detached homes but instead wanted to introduce a new design concept to Nanaimo. The idea was to bring new life to the heart of North Nanaimo’s urban core with the creation of Nanaimo’s first synergistic mixed-use complex that combined residential townhomes, commercial offices, and a multi-family condo building within minutes to existing community amenities.
From initial planning through to construction, Pacific Station received overwhelming community support. From selling out Building A in just 14-days to winning numerous residential and commercial construction awards, attracting a full range of residents and a thriving business community, Westmark’s vision truly came to fruition. To ensure there was the right balance of residential and commercial, plans were changed and the property was rezoned for comprehensive development. Wanting to stand out from the standard or generic architectural style, every design detail was carefully considered, from the building form and character, all the way down to the landscaping and parking. The result was a West Coast modern design with a mix of timber and stone, vaulted ceilings, eye-catching inverted rooflines and secured underground parking.
The location has been a top choice for professionals looking for quality, contemporary office space in a vibrant community. Strategically located in the heart of North Nanaimo’s business hub, Pacific Station is highly visible from the Island Highway and exposes each business to more than 40,000 passing vehicles by each day. Owners of the strata offices have experienced a great deal of success conducting business in Pacific Station, forming great synergies and working together to build a strong sense of community. Supported almost exclusively by local Nanaimo businesses, Pacific Station now features a thriving business centre with a variety of professional firms, including optometrists, physiotherapists, designers, financial planners, and salons. By effectively using land to create multi-use destinations, municipalities can gain more tax revenue from compact development than traditional, single-story, or single-use developments. As the community becomes denser with mixed-use developments like Pacific Station, municipalities can experience more economic savings with reduced costs to public-services like trash, fire, and police as there is less distance required to travel, faster response times and safer streets due to the shared sense of community.
The blend of residential and commercial spaces at Pacific Station is helping people connect with their neighbours, develop relationships with local professionals and create a vibrant sense of place and community.
