An extensive focus on old and new wood in the interior renovation is reflected in the exterior use of featured structural beams. The building was extended and constructed out over the water on pilings, and the redesigned roof line included vestibules, dormers and covered walkways. The lighthouse feature and new colourful building envelope was modeled after the Entrance Island lighthouse in Nanaimo.
